Mail and Calendaring on Sun Workstations (Evolution).

Mail and calendaring are avaliable on the Sun Workstations from the Launch menu at the bottom of the screen. It can show you your local email (prime) as well as other servers (such as OU or google or ..)

Configure local PRIME email.

You might not think you will use it, but this is the easiest way for us to get ahold of you when you leave something in the lab. Also, the system will sometimes send you mail if you exceed your print quoata for the week, or you had an editor session terminate abnormally but your files could still be recovered.

Start the mail program from Launch bar (Java/Gnome desktop.)

From the Tools menu select Settings

Select Mail Accounts

Click Add

Click "Forward" to skip the welcome screen.

On the Identity tab:
Fill in the Name under Account information to be what you like
Put your full name in "Full Name" - people will see this
Put your address @prime.cs.edu in under "Email Address"
Receiving Mail tab
Select server type of "Standard Unix mbox spool or directory"
Enter "Exchange Server" as mail.ohio.edu
Enter "Path" as /var/mail/*Your User Name* (SHould be filled in for you)
Click "Forwad"
Receiving Email tab
Make sure the box beside "Automtically check for new mail" is checked.
Set the time to check to something sane like evern 2 minutes.
Click "Forwad"
Sending Email tab
"Server Type" is Sendmail
Click "Forwad"
Account Management tab
Enter a descption in the nte "ame" field that will be shown when you run the mail program.
Click "Forwad"
Done tab
Click "Apply" to create the entry.

Configure kU FACULTY/STAFF/GRAD STUDENTS (exchange server).

Start the mail program from Launch bar (Java/Gnome desktop.)

Select Mail Accounts

Click Add

On the Identity tab:
Fill in the Name under Account information to be what you like
Put your full name in "Full Name" - people will see this
Put your address @ohio.edu in under "Email Address"
Click "Forwad"
Receiving Email tab
Select server type of Microsoft Eschange
enter "Exchange Server" as mail.ohio.edu
Enter "Windows Username" as ohio.edu\*Your User Name*
Select Always for "Use Secure Connection"
Select Plaintext Password for "Authentication type"
Click "Forwad"
Receiving Options
"Global Catalog Server name" should be mail.ohio.edu or x500.ohio.edu
"Mailbox name" is your login name
"OWA" path is exchange
"Public Folder server" is mail.ohio.edu
Click "Forwad"
Sending Email tab
"Server Type" is Microsoft Exchange
Click "Forwad"
Defaults tab
You can leave them as they are
Click "Forwad"
Security tab
You can leave them as they are
Click "Forwad"
Done tab
Click "Apply" to create the entry.

Configure GMAIL (google mail).

From the Tools menu select Settings

Select Mail Accounts

Click Add

On the Identity tab:

Put your address LOGIN@gmail.com in under "Email Address"
Click "Forwad"
Receiving Email tab
Select server type of IMAP
Enter HOST as imap.gmail.com:993
Enter Username as LOGIN@gmail.com
Select Always for "Use Secure Connection"
Select Plaintext Password for "Authentication type"
Click "Forwad"
Receiving Options
:Automatically check for new mail every ___ minutes" - be sane, use 3
"Check for new messages in all folders" - you probably want this
Click "Forwad"
Sending Mail tab
"Server Type" is SMTP
"Server Configuration" is SMTP
"HOST" - smpt.gmail.com
"Use secure connectino (SSL)" - select ALWAYS
"Server requires authentiation" - make sure box in checked
Authentication
"Authentication Type" is PLAIN
"Username" - LOGIN@gmail.com
Click "Forwad"
Defaults tab
You can leave them as they are
Security tab
You can leave them as they are
Click "Forwad"
Done tab
Click "Apply" to create the entry.
